Vrije Universiteit Brussel and its role in the LIFE4EPR project

The Centre for Environment, Economy and Energy (3E) at the Brussels School of Governance, Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersections of these three fields of law and policy. Our focus is on sustainability transitions, which constitute key challenges and opportunities in Europe and worldwide. We analyse how governance, innovation and socio-economic systems interact to shape a more sustainable future.

In the LIFE4EPR project, the team of VUB researchers conducts legal and policy analysis on EPR systems on the basis of many decades of combined experience on the topic. Our central role is to benchmark best (and worst) performances in EPR systems across Europe, and to develop and organise the ExPeRt Hub, a virtual EPR knowledge community to share and co-create expertise and best practices, consult experts, and host  a novel online database on EPR literature.
